The Law Reform Commission aims to make its digital information and public participation services usable by as many people as possible.

Accessible by design

The website is being developed toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. Accessibility is treated as an ongoing publishing and service responsibility rather than a one-time technical check.

What the website is designed to support

Keyboard accessCore navigation, links and interactive controls can be used without a mouse.
Visible focusKeyboard focus is visually identifiable on interactive controls.
Semantic structureHeadings, landmarks, forms and navigation are structured for assistive technologies.
Responsive layoutContent is designed to remain usable on mobile devices and at enlarged text sizes.
Plain-language supportKnow the Law resources explain legal and reform subjects in more accessible language.
Document accessThe Commission should publish accessible alternatives where source PDFs or historical scans create barriers.

Known limitations

Some historical legal documents may originate as scanned PDFs, older reports or third-party materials that were not created to current accessibility standards. The Commission's digital publishing process should progressively improve those materials through searchable text, meaningful document titles and accessible alternatives where practicable.

Browser, device and connection considerations

The public site is designed to avoid unnecessary heavy media and to prioritise readable text and efficient page delivery. Users on slower connections should still be able to reach the principal legal, reform and public-participation information without relying on video or other high-bandwidth content.

If a document or part of this website is difficult to access, contact the Commission and identify the page or document, the accessibility barrier and the format that would help you.

Continuous review

Accessibility should be checked during design, content publication and major feature changes. New content editors should also receive guidance on headings, link text, image descriptions, document naming and accessible file preparation.
