The House of Representatives passed legislation on 15 June 2026 proposing the establishment of an independent Liberia Insurance Commission and forwarded the measure to the Senate for concurrence.
The legislative milestone follows stakeholder validation of the Draft Insurance Act of 2020 undertaken by the Central Bank of Liberia and the Law Reform Commission in March 2025.
The proposed reform would transfer specialised insurance supervision to a standalone regulator and strengthen licensing, compliance, market oversight and consumer protection. The measure remains subject to the remaining constitutional and legislative steps required before enactment.
