Special Elections Law for the 1997 Elections

The Special Elections Law governed Liberia's 1997 post-conflict presidential and legislative elections. It was submitted to ECOWAS on 5 May 1997 and approved by ECOWAS on 21 May 1997. The full law is preserved in the 1997 Special Edition of the ECOWAS Official Journal. By its own final provision, the law ceased to have legal effect when the President and Vice-President elected in 1997 took the oath of office, subject only to a further thirty-day period for the continued existence of the electoral commission.
