Executive Order No. 44 — Protecting Liberian Forests by a Temporary Moratorium on Private Use Permits

Issued on 4 January 2013, Executive Order No. 44 imposed a temporary moratorium on the issuance of Private Use Permits and suspended logging and log-export activities under existing PUPs after a Special Independent Investigating Body found extensive fraud, misrepresentation, abuse and violations of the National Forestry Reform Law. The Order directed government action to protect Liberia's forests and is preserved here as an important historical forestry-governance instrument.
